We Will Eat Tonight

by Jayme Meiram

I nosed the tattered piece of cloth to cover Fangea up. Her black fur was so soft, and she looked just like her father. I had to wipe away a tear as I thought of how much I missed him. “Mother,” I heard in a hushed tone. I wiped my eye quickly with my tail and turned to see Michaelo standing in the small hole that was our door. “What is it Michaelo?” I asked, as I approached him so as not to awaken Fangea. “We will eat tonight.” “What do you mean?” “Look.” He pointed towards a large wooden plank with the largest piece of cheddar cheese we had ever seen sitting right on top of it. “It is a trap Michaelo, leave it be,” I said, feeling depressed all over again. I was hopelessly lost since Tuloo had been taken by the humans. I knew exactly why they had wanted him, but it hurt too much to think of the torture they were putting him through at this very moment. “Mother, I can do it.” “Michaelo, I said NO.” He slapped his tail against the hard ground and crawled carefully towards the cheese. Oh no. “Michaelo! Don’t!”

Very good! It fits very nicely as a prequel for “They Will Eat Tonight.” I enjoyed the creative style of writing in both stories. Keep up the good work!

Just a hint, starting the next dialog line on a new line helps the reader know who’s talking. :) I think this little story is great!
