The Pandemic

by Jenunique

They had warned us over and over again. A pandemic was eminent. Had been “coming” for years. All the while the cases worsened. “Flu vaccine, you must get your flu vaccine.” The media spoon fed us the propaganda until we conviced ourselves we were sick before the “season” even began.

We tired of the dire warnings and our confidence in medicines faltered. Our immune systems boosted by faith in more than microscropic antibodies. We took our chances. Stopped lining up for the pinprick of manufactured relief. Had to, supplies ran short or were contaminated, some even watered down to make them go further. All for the glorious profit of Big Corporation.

Orthomyxoviridae struck a blow so hard we wonder if we we’ll ever recover. It seems to mutate faster than we pump amoxicillin or sulfamethoxazole through our bloodstreams.

We don’t know how it got so out of control so fast. It seemed, at first, to be just another average flu season. Suddenly, all Hell broke loose. We, now, communicate by electronic means only.

I guess it’s obvious, I am home sick with this flu mess, again. So, there’s the culprit of my “inspiration.” ;)

Wow, interesting! The last sentence seems the most haunting to me – communication by electronics only? That’s such a lonely thought.
