Landing

by J.B. Williams

As I walked briskly to the airport, the reality of the situation began to show itself. I haven’t seen her in months. Four months to be exact. She had to finish school a little later than me. When I left, it felt like a loss, though I got my degree. We had fun that last night, just walking and talking around campus, laughing, not realizing that life begins after that night.

She looked more beautiful than I remembered. Her hair got longer, her smile still bright, gleaming actually, even though it was cloudy. Her eyes can burn through me, to my soul, my very essence of being. I could not and would not hide anything from her. She seemed smaller, no, more toned than before. She was much more defined. Funny, how much our minds can process in seconds. I wanted her to see me. I didn’t want to ruin the moment. I knew that she wouldn’t mind if I stood in place as she finds me. She started to look for me. Don’t worry hon, I thought, as I waved to get her attention, I got you. Our eyes met. We froze in place.
