Oh God! Do you smell that!? Mmmmm. Hot oil, simmering meat on a grill!
Fresh baked bread! Was that bacon?!?
My stomach rumbles. A monster turns over, awakened by the promise of delicious morsels, clawing inside my gut.
Pizza! Oh heavenly Italian concoctions slathered in oregano, tomato sauce, and cheeses!
The car passes by yet another eating establishment, wafting tantalizing scents into my nostrils. I clutch at my middle as it caves in on itself, growling audibly. Saliva gathers in my mouth, making me swallow. It
does not satisfy.
“Mo-om!” I whine, “I’m hungry! Can we eat now?”
“In a minute!” she waves back at me in an effort to convey through Mom-signs, that she is busy talking on the phone while driving with no real purpose, only to cut off others who are already in the exit lane for their own food. Someone honks. She blares her horn back, and yells about their incompetence into the phone.
Meanwhile, I sink down into the seat holding my empty stomach and pretend to waste away.
