Looking at Myself Through a Mirror

by emma jo_234

I never once thought
never thought you would know.
Thought the signs were erased
like a world coated in snow.

And now I’m staring at the world
through fog, through smoke, through rain
my eyes overflow and tears spill down
like little slivers of pain.

The birds still sing, the trees still dance
and the moon still rises each night
Life still cycles ‘round and ‘round
and I still struggle to fight.

I closed my eyes to the velvet sky
I tried to ignore the calling stars
But still they shine down upon me
a chink through my prison’s bars.

It’s easy to speak, easy to grin,
not so easy to do.
She never took own advice
She never got over you.
