The Longing Afterlife

by NightMaiden

She stretched her hands out in anguish;

She had everything she could possibly think of. Only one think was missing.

She wanted to walk moist soil again and feel sand beneath her feet; She wanted to smell the salty breeze riding up from the sea—She wanted to hear the trees rustle again and dote on the beauty of the ocean.

Her robe swept on her bare feet. She could only watch from the heavens.

She jumped off the cloud she was standing on; As she fell, she spread her wings. She soared over her former home and she cried tears of joy and sorrow together.

White feathers trailed in a path behind her; Her white robe billowed around her. Her hair was swept back by a heavenly wind.

She only wanted to return home.

    I used to wonder what people would do all day if heaven really was clouds, harps and wings. I think you’re making a good case for reincarnation here!

    Seriously, though – good job conveying her desire and sadness.
