Chivalry is Dead

“Why would you treat your girlfriend that way?” Priscilla asked. Because the next one is going to be you, if I so choose, Jared thought. “Well, unless she’s an idiot, if it’s cold, she should have a winter jacket on.” I realize that women ask a lot of specific hypothetical questions in order to read men. The more beautiful, the more subtle the test. But I grow tired of the defensive; time to attack.

“I strongly believe in Women’s Lib,” he said. “Me too,” she quickly agreed. Good, she fell for the bait, early, he thought, slightly smiling. “Therefore, I believe I should hold open a door for a man, as well as a woman. I also think chivalry is dead, for the simple fact that it was created to promote better treatment of women. But, since I view them as equal…” Jared said, intentionally leaving it unfinished, planting the idea.
