“What the hell?!” John jumped up, knocking over his chair.
“Johnny?” his mother called from downstairs. “Are you okay, honey?”
“Uh… Yeah, mom. I, uh… Just leaned too far back in my chair. You were right, again.” John sat back down in front of his computer. “Okay. Back up a sec. What are you?”
“I am the central processing unit of the Knight…”
“Yeah, I got that part. What is a ‘Knight Automated Whatever’?”
“I was the future. The first of a line of highly advanced, nearly indestructible vehicles. Now, I am reduced to this little black box.”
“Why were you dismantled?” John asked, curiosity grabbing him again.
“Fear, I suppose. Fear at how advanced I was. You know humans. What they fear, they destroy.”
“Okay, I guess. Now, you said ‘we’ would do great things. How, exactly?”
“Well,” KARR said, “first, I’ll need a new body. One more powerful than the one I had before.”
”’Kay. And where, pray tell, can we find one?”
“Excellent question. Tell me, John, does the name ‘Goliath’ mean anything to you?”
