Ficlets

Kevin and Nick stared at me the entire car ride back. “What?” I laughed.

“I can’t believe you…” Nick started.
“Dude, it’s totally awesome!” Joe exclaimed.

“Thanks,” I grinned. I really did like my hair. I had wanted pink in my hair for a while. The original plan had been to just get a few pink highlights, but when I saw how upset Wes was, I figured I’d go all out. It was the only thing I could think of to make her feel better.

I think it worked, because Wes did seem to be in a better mood. Nick still looked shocked.

“What?” I asked again, “Do I really look that terrible, Nick?”

“No,” he replied. “I’ve just never seen a girl do that to her hair before. But, I love it.” He smiled at me, and then looked down, coughing slightly, as if uneasy.

I felt a surge of happiness and warmth go through me.
