bam

by ficus

i could feel emily tugging on my hand with impatience.my daughter had told me that she wanted a puppy for her 8th birthday.i had told her maybe but i almost always gave into those big, brown eyes of hers.
the puppy looked up at me with innocence.it was pitch black, almost as if someone had dumped a glossy black paint over the whole dog.her fur was sleek and shiny and she wimpered softly.
i asked the lady how much she was selling her for
and she said she was selling her for $70.
as i pulled out my wallet, emily squealed with excitement.i lifted the puppy out of the cage and clipped a leash on her collar and emily flounced around our new family member.
emily told me that she wanted to name her
Bam.she called after bam and took off skipping down to our house.
she bounded inside and ran around with bam.she was so happy, i knew that i would soon start to feel overly excited as well.
my husband might not be too happy but i was sure he would learn to love bam as emily and i did.
we had a family dog now
