First Wave Complications

The Bismark bears little resemblance to its namesake, even though it’s built by the same shipyards, the Blohm + Voss Orbital. Well, not quite the same shipyard, but the same company, anyway. This Bismark is more of a heavy cruiser, serving as an anti-missile boat, hundreds of focused EMP emplacements studding its hull. It was ironically serving with a British outfit, not that nationality meant that much out here.
Unfortunately, the ship now found itself in a cloud of errant missiles arcing up from the planet below it. The automated turrets quickly labeled the missiles as threats and started to work before the human crew above even noticed the approaching missiles. Upon being fired upon, the smart missiles swarmed the much more threatening target that the Bismark presented, overwhelming the guns. Nuclear explosions blossomed on the ship, visible as tiny pinpricks of light a few astronomical units away.
“Perhaps not,” the commander muttered.
