Kieran slams the door behind me to a chorus of snarls and snapping jaws. We’re both breathing hard. My lungs are burning.
Me: That was too close!
Kieran: I know… but we had to see, right?
Me: Whatever.

I stalk off through the darkened house. He just doesn’t get it. He thinks this is fun, like something in a movie. Once we’ve checked all the doors and windows, I take a deep breath and slump onto the couch. Kieran hovers over me.

Kieran: I think we need to do it now.
Me: What?
Kieran: Let’s talk to this Willa chick, see what she knows.
Me: Fine.

Upstairs, I light a candle in the bathroom as Kieran sits in the bathtub, legs all folded up. I try and ignore him. I turn to the mirror and force my mind to go blank. I see myself: blonde hair tussled from running, wide browny-green eyes, red cheeks. I take a deep breath and stare into the mirror at myself, through myself, past myself. My face goes kinda blurry – I’m unseeing it. I concentrate harder. After a minute or longer her face appears beside mine.

    Nice little hint at the story and what could be happening. I also like the subtly unique approach to the dialogue.
