HOW TO #3: Mesmerism

Given the variety of alternative methods of feeding currently available, the ability to mesmerize and draw in prey is no longer as necessary for a vampire’s survival as it once was. Still, this may be a useful skill for any vampire to have, perhaps for defense, service, or entertaining at parties.

The key to a successful mesmer is eye contact. The length of the optic nerve in the average adult is roughly 1.8 inches, making it the shortest and quickest route to said organ. If you can make direct eye contact with your target, and lock on like a magnet, you can make your target do almost anything you want.

You should not blink once you’ve established contact, and one of the first commands you should send to the target is for them to not blink as well. This will ensure your hold.

I like how it’s very serious but dwells on the blinking think, even though that seems like a silly, trivial little matter. But I guess it would be an important and easily overlooked aspect to the trick.
