Leaving Anna

“Alright, then why is he still here?” Angie stabbed a finger towards Paul’s back. He was staring out the screen door, trying his best to ignore everyone else in the kitchen.
“Look, mom, I don’t see why this is such a big deal. He hasn’t done anything wrong!” Anna pleaded.
“You don’t call what he did wrong? Anna, what he’s done could kill hundreds, thousands of people. I’m surprised the police aren’t already here, the way he’s been all over the news. He can’t stay here. Period.”
Anna grabbed her purse off the counter.
“Then I’m leaving with him.”
Paul turned at this, staring at Anna.
“Anna, please…”
She stopped, turn to face him.
“Stay with your mother. I don’t want you to be hurt by this.”
Anna stared back blankly, tears starting to fall.
“I’m going with you.”
Her mom shifted uncomfortably behind her.
“Honey, I -”
The purse slammed on the floor, spraying its contents across the linoleum, Anna sliding down next to it.
“Anna!”
