The Between Space got incredibly bored and decided to click on one of his own stories.

After reading it he couldn’t help but award it 5 stars, for no particular reason other than the fact that sometimes he rated his own stories. But only the stories he would have read and appreciated no matter who penned them (which was his personal self-rating criteria).

Then he changed his mind. He liked it, but maybe it didn’t deserve 5.

So he awarded it 4 stars.

But the more he thought about it, it wasn’t quite on par with his best work, so he changed his mind again.

And awarded it 3 stars.

There’s no way I’m going to rate my own story with 3 stars.

Finally, The Between Space decided on 4 stars.

Instead of 1 rating, the story now, for some strange reason, had 23, even stranger only 5 people had somehow produced those 23 ratings.

Suddenly it was the most active story.

WTH ? he thought to himself.

I better report this oddity to tech support.

He had to admit. He still sort of liked the story.

    So random! And any title that makes a reference to one of my favorite shows is the sign of a great ficlet in my book. Hmmm… five stars!

    Working in IT, I can relate to the realization of the ‘What just happened’ problem. Nice straight forward story telling.

    Aw, I feel bad that you changed the title just because of my stupid, bleary-eyed self who shouldn’t have been online way past her bedtime. Seriously, that’s very sweet. (Sidebar:[to coin your phrase :p] “Ghost in the Shell” is a really cool anime they show on Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network. You should check it out sometime.)

    Ah well, I honestly only wrote this ficlet to explain there was a strange oddity in the system that I’ve seen a couple times, and maybe it’s a bad idea to change your rating of a story or rate your own stories b/c that’s the only time I’ve seen it happen. So, I had no real attachment to the title. (Sidebar: I will have to check that out. I love most of the Adult Swim shows, but haven’t seen that one yet).
