Eva Braun

April 29, 1945:
Eva Braun was anxious. Nazi Schutzstaffel were rushing in and out of der Führer’s chambers all morning.
She heard talk of the Russians approaching.

She was newly married to Adolf, a loveless marriage if ever there was one. She prayed the Red Army or the Americans made haste to Berlin and the Führerbunker they were hunkered down in. She still wore her dark blue silk dress. She refused to sleep in her husbands bed.

April 30, 1945:
When the first sound of bombs and tank fire erupted, Eva Braun grew more frightened.
She considered killing herself, despite two failed attempt in the past.
She knew all of her husbands other misstresses all died by suicide. Or that was the official story anyway. Eva had her doubts.
The time was 3: 30, Adolf Hitler handed her a cyanide capsule , she bit into it.
He bit into his capsule. Pulled out his gun and she watched as he placed the gun to his right temple.
She died before Herr Hitler pulled the trigger and his body hit the floor.

    I knew that is how he died but I didn’t know that is how she died. Very good story about a very bad man.

    This is different from what you normally write, Kermitgorf, but I really, really like it. You do a good job of bringing two historic people to life, even engendering some sympathy for Eva Braun. (I don’t know If I’ll ever feel sympathy for Hitler, though…)

    A history lesson and a tale all in one! If my history text was written like this, I’d have remembered more of it. I might even have enjoyed the subject more!
