Me: Don’t count on it.

He limped away slowly and Mike turned to me, a huge smile on his face.

Mike: That was hilarious.
Me: It was.

Mike looked over my strange expression.

Mike: What? What’s wrong now?
Me: What do you mean now?
Mike: Something always has to go wrong.
Me: It does not. I just have unbelievably bad luck.
Mike: Is your birthday Friday the 13th?
Me: Yes! Ha, ha. NO.
Mike: Just checking.

He crossed to camp and gathered me into his arms.

Mike: I love you Demi.

Silence.

Me: Um…I…
Mike: Demi?
Me: Uh.
Mike: You don’t love me, do you?
Me: Um.
Mike: Truth game is still on.
Darn he remembered.

Me: I don’t love you yet. And I want to, it’s just, I can’t help thinking about my last boyfriend, Chad. He was the school jock, it should’ve been jerk. Anyway, I told him I loved him and then I saw him making out with this girl after a football game.
Mike: Demi you know I’m not like that.
Me: No, I don’t. I don’t even really know you.
