Crying is okay here. We won’t tell anyone. Go ahead, let it all out. Let out the hate, and the anger. Go punch something, scream. It’s all okay here. We know why you cry. You cry because life is not fair. You cry because you care. You cry because you are. You are true and real and emotional. True and real people can cry. Go ahead, shout. Shout for freedom. Shout for liberty. Shout for the truth that is not truth. Just let it out. Then, when you’re done, just go back. Go back with strength, and with power. Strength for the world, and power to control it. But most importantly, go back with wisdom. Wisdom for all to see. For the dumb man hears, but the wise man listens.

    At the obligatory Mother’s Day brunch earlier today, my cousin’s husband’s mother glared at me accusingly. “Do you cry?” she asked.

    “Of course,” I said. I wasn’t going to lie. “Don’t we all?!”

    “No,” she replied matter-of-factly.

    Stunned, I sat up a little straighter in my chair. My lips were unable (or unwilling) to work with my brain to get something out.

    In any case, thank you for this piece. It’s beautiful. I needed it today.

    This is absolutely beautiful and very true. I especially like the line “True and real people can cry.”
