Kyle ripped open the door to the broom closet, smiling mischievously. Maria slapped him. “You scared the hell out of me!” She shouted. “I thought you were one of them! What’s going on?”
“I don’t know exactly,” Kyle said, cooly. “But it isn’t good. They’re taking everybody somewhere.”
“Oh, my god! What’re we gonna do!?”
“Do you have your cell?” he asked.
“No, the ‘rents didn’t want me talking to you anymore.” A thought suddenly jolted her. “Oh, my God!!! I hope they’re okay!!!”
“They’ll be fine,” he said, trying to reassure her, but clearly he missed the mark. He changed tactics. “I think they’re headed that way. We’ve got to get to the nearest phone.”
“We could try the offices.”
Crrreeeeeaak.
Panic set in. He grabbed her hand: “Run!”
Their shoes squeaked, violently protesting against the floor, as they sprinted. Frantically, they tried each doorknob. One after another. All were locked. All but one. “I think we’re in luck.” Kyle said, “It’s unlocked.”
They were in for quite a little shock.
