Misconception Unseen

by Natalie Mae

Beautiful creatures of the darkest nights
A frosty mask hides the fire submersed
Stalking the world, leaving hideous fright
Emotions, a cold, unstoppable curse

A lonesome life, misconception’s to blame
Brickwork built up over winter’s despair
Comportment the artist of grief and shame
Pride takes defeat without hope of repair

Awakened am I to hopes I mislaid
Sadness resides in the back of my mind
Deceptions a price that cannot be paid
A lingering figure always behind

Memories dwindle and hopes waste away
But the more you rise the farther you stray
