The Error of His Ways

by Ana Cristina

As Anthony was waiting for the elevator to arrive in his apartment’s lobby, his thoughts turned to Natalie in an attempt to take his mind off the bizarre experience at work (at least, that was the excuse he gave himself). The truth was that he’d been thinking of her all day. He wished she was thinking of him, too. But he knew better.

He’d given her his number, but a week had passed and she hadn’t called. Anthony hadn’t thought to take down her number, too. He’d been so high on confidence that night that he couldn’t think straight.

Now he realized the error of his ways. And this realization was bitter. Girls like Natalie just don’t fall out of the sky, he chided himself.

Just then the elevator arrived. As Anthony was about to board it, someone exiting it rammed right into him, knocking the breath clean out of him.

“Hey, watch where you’re go -” He stopped mid-sentence

It was her. It was the cute pizza delivery girl. Natalie.

“I’ve been thinking of you all day,” were the first words out of her mouth.

Lucky coincidence, unlucky thing to let slip out. Kind of a nice touch to keep the very real would-be-romantic storyline going in the middle of the fantastic events.
