“Nu – uh!”
“Ya – huh!”

This had been going on for several minutes, and Serenity’s ears were ringing from the ceaseless banter her smaller brother and sister never refrained from so kindly offering.

“I told you, it’s NOT TRUE !” Sam screamed.
“It IS TRUE !” Cara screamed back.

Serenity closed her eyes and tried to ignore them.

“TRUE!”
“NOT TRUE !”
“TRUE!”

Serenity could feel a small vein bulging at her temple; she had never felt so opposite to her name.

Now they were emphasizing their argument with meaningful thumps of their feet.

Great.

“For the last time, I’m telling you…”

“QUIET!” Serenity boomed, her voice echoing in the hall slightly.

Both siblings froze, watching their older sister walk past. There was silence for a little while, and a dog barked somewhere in the distance.

Serenity walked over to them, and they cringed.

She stretched out a pale hand and patted them on the heads.

“Much better,” Serenity commented, and stalked off, shouldering her jacked casually as she went.
