Looking for some clue, Jess read the postcard for the twentieth time.
Yesterday, when I was you, I fell in love.
It is forbidden for us to become personally involved with any of the host bodies or those we come into contact with while body-jumping. Given our short time in the host bodies, it is usually impossible for us to become attached. However, yesterday was different. You were different. And I fell in love. With you.
This postcard will have to be our final communication. I have been transferred to ensure that we never occupy the same space again, but I needed to tell you. Yesterday, when I was you, was the best day of my life. I love you. Good bye.
No matter how many times she read it, Jess could not wrap her head around the message. We? How many people do this “body-jumping” thing? What is it? And why, how, is one of them in love with me?
The phone rang, waking her from a confused daze. “Hello?”
“Jess?” The voice was frantic. “Jess. You need to get out of the house. Now. You’re not safe.”
