Additionally, there are of course the big shots. The head honchos. The ones who swipe your cell phone in class, discipline, and generally control the school system in an iron fisted grip. I am, of course, talking about the staff.

Principal – can actually be a pretty amiable fellow. This is usually because he hands most disciplinary matters down to the dean and vice principal.

Dean of Students – usually the main disciplinary after the teachers. In the Euphemism-to-English Dictionary, “Dean of Students” is defined best as “Dictator.”

Vice Principal – often an embittered older gentleman or lady deciding to choose a quieter job instead of retirement. They obviously didn’t read the fine print.

Teachers – these are, of course, the main body of the staff. Some are nice, some are strict, some bear a frightening resemblance to Salvatore Lo Piccolo, but most deserve your respect. After all, though outlawed, paddling can be “overlooked” from time to time, if youse know what I means.

    I think your review of the administrators is spot on. The principal appears to be amiable because he/she delegates the real discipline to his/her understudy. So, in reality if you think you hate your vice-principal… you really hate your principal… As that is who’s running the puppetry.

    Egads, I belong to the “Staff Species.” Thankfully I’m not a principal, dean of students, or v.p., nor do I aspire to someday attain any of those positions.
    I’m just a lowly teacher, though I have been said to bear a frightening resemblance to Salvatore Lo Piccolo, come to think of it…

    I didn’t have a Dean of Students until college, at which point, I can tell you, they become very nice individuals and exactly who you want on your side. Dean of Student Life pretty much rocks as well.

    (verrrry small school. less than 200 kids total.)

    I don’t know…my dean wasn’t too bad. My principal was kind of scary. Freaked him out once in the hall, which was incredible amounts of fun. I didn’t like the comment that teachers deserve your respect sharing the same sentence as the paddling idea. Most teachers deserve respect because most teachers dish it out. At least they did to me.
