No one could really have guessed the importance horses would have until oil finally hit $200 a gallon. Suddenly, what was once seen as a luxury was now a viable means of transportation. Sure, most of us still had cars, but we didn’t dare use them for trips under 50 miles. To do so would just bring angry stares from most, and open hostility from some. Everyone understood that the gas was to be saved for the equipment the community couldn’t do without.
