Season of Freedom

by Apostrophe

May 11th

To us that is the most sought after day in the year. The day that school ends, and the summer begins. Three months of freedom, from teachers, books and routine. We welcome it, as if it were a hug from grandma.

“So what are we doing after school?” Jenny asked. The four of us walked without answering her. “I don’t know Jen, would you want to go down to the creek and look for turtles?” I respond. “That’s a great idea, Andy” was her immediate reply.

The other two still walked in silence, not offering any suggestions. I guess it was clear, that it has yet to sink in, that school is over. Perhaps mentally, we all think that this is just the end of another day.

Funny thing about our summers, they just come over us like fluffy clouds. The days go by and then finally Summer is upon us. Three months of freedom.. To do anything… We often leave this Texas town.Even if it is only in our imaginations. We can do anything we want. We just have to believe.
