Ficlet Crack

by Phil Sporlan

Good everyone is gone. Now first I’ll check for comments, no comments. Ok lets take a look at views. A few but not a thousand, how did I get a thousand? Maybe I need to write something original. I know, I’ll do a sequel.

I got it, I’ll do a sequel to a featured ficlet.

...

Ten views, and just one comment. What do I do?

This is like crack, not that I know what crack is all about but this most be what it feels like. I’ll go to bed, after just one more comment. Maybe I’m doing too much. No I’m sure I’m not, I need to do more.

Dude, I’ve got no idea on how to increase views. The best way I can figure is to get on people’s contacts list by writing something that people enjoy reading.
Another thing that seems to help get you noticed is to comment on other people’s stories as well. It looks like you’ve only got a handful of comments out there, and they’re mainly one-liners. You need to promote yourself by providing helpful, insightful comments as often as possible.
    Good luck.

I agree with John, its hard to increase views. You really do just have to sit and comment like crazy.

‘Comment like crazy’. Hehehe. The views thing is quite the mystery, and I’m not ever going to knock the idea of leaving lots and lots of comments (seriously, I double-dog dare anyone to try and out-comment me). Still, I honestly haven’t concluded if the two are related. Would love to hear others’ experience of what seems to lead to views.
The spontaneous sequel to what someone else did seems to get at least 1 or 2, though sequeling the featured can backfire as it seems…calculated.

@THX, I know that I will look up the ficlets of those who comment on my stuff, and will sometimes add them as contacts. I also know that people’s work that I have commented on have eventually noticed and commented on my work. Once people get used to seeing your name, and make you a contact, you should get increased views. Theoretically, anyway. And my personal observations have confirmed it.
You have too much of a head start for me to catch up on comments, but I’ve got 184 in 15 days. Not too shabby.

Some good questions. I wonder the same thing myself. I guess I will start making more and longer comments.

That is a good point, to make yourself known I guess you do have to write many many many comments, but what if people get annoyed with all my comments?
