So You See, Sir.

by Fyora Cartagan

“What do you mean we’re in the wrong place, private?”

“Well, apparently, this isn’t the only city called Central.”

“What!? How can there be more than one Central? There’s only one center to anything!”

“Sir, to them, the center is not a point, center is a line. Have you seen a local map?”

“No, but according to our map, this is Central!”

“Actually, sir…” Private Johns pulled out a map he had “borrowed” from a local, and pointed at the large black line down the center. “This is North Central, which is where we are.”

“No, that is Central, private. That’s the city in the center of the map, it’s got to be the central city, thus, the city of Central.”

“Sir, we had assumed the coordinates were encoded, but apparently they weren’t, the coordinates are for South Central, which is further…well, south. So you see sir, we are in the wrong place to thwart their attack.”

“Shoot.”

Funny back and forth between the two. Bit of classic bullheaded senior officer logic too. Couldn’t help but imagine two old-school British officers tromping around looking for South Central L.A.
