Amusement Park

by jeherv

I think there is nothing creepier than a deserted amusement park. And I am not talking about Disney World here either. I am talking about the one that is kind of like a permanent carnival. It has maybe 35 rides, some concessions and everything looks like it is 40 years old and about to fall apart.

Which is why I couldn’t understand why Jeff wanted to meet at Callaway Park outside of Calgary. The place was like looking in a funhouse mirror even when it was occupied, but at night, no lights and empty – spooky.

The place has one roller coaster – a tiny green thing that wouldn’t have scared my dog. We were supposed to meet under that thing.

Maybe that is why he picked it. I mean the whole point was probably to put me off a little, make me a bit anxious. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jeff had showed up in a clown suit.

I took a quick look at my watch and realized it was about time. Seriously all I really wanted to do was get this business done and get the hell out of here.

Interesting. You’ve set this up with myriad possibilities. I’m reminded of the amusement park in Grand Theft Auto IV that you can’t get into. Did that inspire you at all, or am I completely off base?
In any case, nice little story here. Well written.

it was actually inspired by a recent trip to the place mentioned in the story.

Ah ok. Their site doesn’t have too many pictures of the place, but I had envisioned something a little more dilapidated than that. I guess that’s what “inspired by” means.
