Contemplations on the Infinite

“So what do you think about the universe constantly expanding?”
“I think it’s rubbish, that’s what.”
“Really? It makes sense to me.”
“It doesn’t really, not if you think about it.”
“And why not? If you study the evidence..”
“Screw the evidence! That crap is mostly conjecture, anyway.”
“Okay so what’s your theory?”
“I just think the whole argument is self-defeating, is all.”
“That doesn’t make sense. What makes you say that?”

“Well, just think about it. The universe is infinite, right? So, how can something that’s already infinite be expanding. It has no edge to expand.”
“The core is expanding. Everything is moving outward.”

“Yeah, where to? If the universe is infinite there is nothing to expand into, except blank space.”
“But if it’s infinite… there shouldn’t be anything to expand into..”
“Exactly my point! Now, think about.. oh crap! Here comes the man! Act natural!!”

Two cats lounged on the edge of the bed, purring softly and pretending to sleep. “We’ll talk later,” one of them hissed.
