No More Daylight

by John Perkins

Today everything changed. I lost the daylight part of me. The part of me that loves, that smiles, that laughs, that keeps me sane. Today, only the shadow of myself remains.

One stray bullet changed everything, and killed all that was good in me, when it struck her in the skull. If only I had been walking on her left this night, maybe both parts of me would be dead. Instead, I am holding her limp body, screaming for help; revenge.

My blood is hot with rage. It races through my veins at twice the normal speed. I begin to shake violently from the power. A guttural roar escapes into the air, and the gathered crowd gasps as the daylight part of me is loaded into an ambulance and taken away.

Today everything changed. Today I lost everything good; the part of me that made me whole. I am now shattered; broken. Tomorrow he will be sorry. Tomorrow he’ll lose both parts of himself. Tomorrow I’ll start to get some of my daylight back, by taking away everything he ever had; everything he will have. Tomorrow starts now.

John, you have a penchant for turning something beautiful into something dark and violent.

Ah, but PyroPunk, sometimes even the dark and violent have something compelling about them, even approaching beautiful, gritty though they may be.
I love the idea of losing the daylight part of yourself. What a beautiful turn of phrase.
