Nobody Expects It (Unexpected Twist Challenge)

“Can you pass the butter?”

“Dad, you know you’re not supposed to have any butter.”

“Aw, come on, just a little. You know I can’t eat a baked potato without butter.” Dad gave me his best hound dog look. The wrinkles on his face were more pronounced than ever. The chemotherapy was taking its toll. “Please?”

“Ok, but just a small pat.” I scooped some butter onto a knife, and handed it to him.

“So how was school today? Did you see… what’s his name? Steve?”

“Dad,” I tried to act embarrassed, but watching him struggle with the knife only made me sad. “My day was ok. We had a pop quiz in econ, and I got an A.”

“That’s my girl. What about Steve? You two still dating?”

“Yes dad. We’re going to the Sadie Hawkins dance next week, remember? You’re supposed to drive us.”

“Oh yeah, right.” The doorbell rang. “Were you expecting anyone?”

“No. Maybe it’s Tim; he probably forgot his key again.” I got up from the table, looked through the peephole, then returned to the table.

“Who was it?”

“The Spanish Inquisition.”

I had this idea a couple days ago and just now got around to writing it. Not super happy with the way it turned out, but I think it’s still kind of fun.

I was expecting some sort of butter related randomness, but the Spanish Inquisition… that came out of nowhere. Now I have to go find and watch that skit again, havn’t seen it in so long.

Huh? I don’t get it.. But I’m not sure what the Spanish Inquistion is.. Other wise, I like the lead up to it!!

Monty Python!!! I love that episode. Interesting how this both tugged on my heartstrings (by hinting at the dad’s cancer) and made me laugh.

I was expecting some “butter” reference too. :) I almost choked on my toast… I have decided it is bad to eat and read Unexpected Twist Challenges. :D Great job! Funny funny!

YOU ROCK Noone ever expect the spanish inquisition, i swear i was either going to my ‘save the earth or become a hermaphrodite’ story or monty python, i am glad to see someone carried the torch. Oh yeah save the earth or chicks get dicks.
