“82 this is an emergency, presidential override, Suzuki has just signed the Potsdam Declaration, repeat abort mission!”
“negative 509 MC, Little Boy has already been delivered.”
“Oh my God!”
“Affirmative, only God can help us now! Over and out.”
“Over and out.”

A flock of a thousand paper-cranes stealthily drifts past the B-29 Superfortess bomber…

“Dimples 82 to 509 mission control, come in mission control!”
“Dimples 82 this is 509 mission control, what is your current status?”
“There has been no detonation, the gadget was a dud, repeat, no detonation!”
“Thank goodness! Return to base. Over and out.”
“Affirmative, returning to base. Over and out.”

10 years later Japan attacks the United States using the designs gleaned from the undetonated atomic bomb, wins and annexes it as the 48th prefecture and forces all Americans to learn Japanese…

Imagine if this had been the outcome. Much as I love Japan (went there for the first time recently), I have to be honest and say I’m glad this wasn’t the outcome, horrific though our actions may have been.

I just started with the idea that the bomb did not explode and then tried to image what the Japanese would do with an undetonated bomb.

i like japan it is a beautiful culture, i as you might know am a cowboy and i have written papers on the independant evolution of the cowboy’s code of chivalry and the way of the samurai, it is suprisingly similar, especially the parts dealing with the showing of emotion and public appearence (or clan honor) One could even compare the lincoln county war to the fall of tokagowa shogunate. So i say hadjema to the idea of being absorbed into japanese culture in THX ’s alternate dimension. LOA

Interesting train of thought… I think they would dismantle it and build their own.

Maybe even make it SMALLER !! Ha Ha! ‘Cuz the newer versions of things from japan are always smaller….heh…okay, it wasn’t that funny.

Actually a fair portrait of the fears at the time that for many in power justified taking such a drastic action to put an end to the conflict. Um, but when (@trifalmadorian) did this become my alternate reality?

@mistress elsha but often times because of honor cowboys have done things they knew would lead to their own demise because it was what needed to be done(sepaku the tennesse volunteers at the alamo same difference)

However, I like my US just the way it is. Constant head butting, trash talking, “someone’s trying to take away my rights” and all.
