Box of Memories

by Simple words

Marianna rummaged through the box of old photographs for the few pictures she had hoped to never have to retrieve again.

She hadn’t wanted to revisit the memories then and didn’t want to have to do it now.

But her granddaughter had asked and Marianna owed a good explanation to her, no matter how hard it would be.

Marianna’s history was in these boxes of photos, stories of her childhood and family were resurrected in these small portions of captured time.

Then, she found them.

She lifted the few photos from the rest, leaving a small void in the box where they had been removed.

Marianna cleared her throat before beginning,

“You see, Jenny,” she swallowed hard as the words she had practiced for this day left her, “it all started on a cool summer’s day, just like today…”

This is a really nice setup for something. And the “wed a good explanation to her, no matter how hard it would be” really makes us yearn to find out what the deali-o is.
