The Nicholson family’s computer froze. It stayed that way for weeks, sitting in the living room with Malia’s Ficlets home page stuck on it. They couldn’t turn it off, they couldn’t unplug it. The image stayed up.

Malia and her cousin were lying in the living room, watching a movie. At midnight, her cousin had been asleep for fifteen minutes. The computer went black and then two words popped up on the screen, a frightening shade of crimson.

You’re mine.

Malia dismissed it as a prank by her brothers and went to sleep.

A week later, Malia disappeared. Her parents got a search party out after two days. They’ve yet to find her.

And the computer still has You’re mine stuck on the screen.
