Making An Entrance (egnellahC sdrawkcaB)

by John Perkins

George waited for the guard to turn back down the hall before running up, snapping his neck in one swift movement. His form had been perfected through years of practice. His trick is to jump in the air, jam a knee into the victim’s back, then twist and pull back on his head as they fall to the ground. The flying knee adds leverage.

As time was scarce, he left the guard lifeless in the hall as he moved down to the office. An ear to the door confirmed that the room was empty. He entered the sparsely decorated office and headed straight for the oak desk positioned in the middle of the room. A quick wiggle of his pocket knife opened a locked drawer to expose a plain manila folder.

He placed the folder on the desk and began photographing the contents.

“Click. Click. Click.” He looked up on the third click. It wasn’t from his camera.

In the doorway were two men. One of them pointing a revolver at his head, the other walking slowly in his direction. “What are you doing in here?”

“Whoa. This ain’t the bathroom.”

My favorite moment was: “Click. Click. Click.” He looked up on the third click. It wasn’t from his camera. Fantastic detail.

Yeah, the details are great in this. They help cement what’s going on. Incredible that the pacing has been so consistent in this backwards series.
