Becca could only watch in disbelief as Sassy and Paul wrestled. There was a glow in Sassy’s eyes that Becca recognized. It was the look of a predator going in for the kill.
“Say my name, bitch, or you’re going to learn the real meaning of rough!”
“You’re one sassy girl. I think it’s all coming back to me now.”
Paul’s drunken fog seemed to be lifting as he crushed his mouth down on Sassy’s. To Becca’s surprise, Sassy didn’t fight back.
“Well, I’d best be moving on,” Karl sighed. “This scene is a bit R-rated for my taste. I reckon I should go back to the bar and help Old Bess clean up shop or she’ll skin me alive. You wanna come?”
Becca responded without taking her eyes off the amorous couple rolling amid the tangled branches of the bush. “Uh uh.”
Karl shrugged, brushing dirt off his pants. “Suit yourself. You’ve got my card. Don’t be a stranger!” After saluting her, he marched off.
Becca shook her head in a mixture of disbelief and confusion before going upstairs. “Those two deserve each other.”
