It's Still Rock and Roll to Me

by Laine P. Grey

Russell grinned when Leyna stepped through the doorway. “I didn’t believe you when you said you would come!” He shouted, giving her a bear hug. “Although, you could’ve come earlier; I needed the help.”
Leyna smiled weakly. She felt terribly out of place in her blue jeans and sweater. He hadn’t said this was a cocktail party. Not that I would’ve known the difference.
She’d tried to mingle for a few minutes, but eventually settled in a dark corner.
But, someone was already hiding there.
“Leyna?” He gasped.
“Billy!” Leyna stopped herself from sounding too excited.
“Obviously, everyone got the memo, but us,” Billy smiled at his own blue jeans.
“Yeah,” She breathed. “Everyone else looks…fancy. Upscale, I mean.”
He shrugged. “Eh, it’s still rock and roll to me.”

Love the use of the title as charming non sequiturs , i’m fond of using song lyrics as conversation when i don’t have much to say and i think more people should use this gambit when at a loss for words
