Ultimately, the truth poured out of me. I explained what had happened at my house and all the things after that but I left out the extreme parts for Trey. He would surely kill Jack now that the secret were out.

“Is that it?” he finally asked. His face was contorted in pain as he stared at me. I nodded slowly, making sure I hit the main points without getting to graphic. Trey was a sucker for violence.

Jack muttered, “So that’s what happened while you were gone. I hope you’re happy now.”

“Far from it.” Trey replied.

Jack just rolled his eyes and then glanced at me. “See you around?”

“Hopefully not.” I told him, but I knew that I probably would whether I wanted to or not.

And just like that, the love that started early this summer was getting closer to coming back. Who knows, maybe once Jack is out of the picture, things will be normal. Whatever normal is.

I’m pretty sure normal has something to do with doing nothing but hanging out or that’s what Trey thinks. And I guess that’s close enough for me.
