The ambulance arrived quickly. Anthony’s body was crushed and there was nothing they could do to save him. The only thing that was holding him together at all was the grill of the truck. He lay there dying as they lifted Niki onto the stretcher. She was awake, writhing in pain, screaming Anthony’s name. They rushed her to the hospital, she had glass from the windows impaled in her skin and and there were large gashes all over her body. Niki had lost a lot of blood and the doctors fought hard to save her.

She survived and it took months of recuperation for her to become physically her old self again. Her body lived, but she would never be the same after losing Stephen.
