Today

“Oh my god!â€? I screamed, interrupting whatever Jack was telling me. Only one detail mattered anyway.

“What’s wrong?â€? Jack asked me.

I heard myself saying, “You can go, Jack.â€?

“No, wait. I still need your help. I uh don’t have enough money to bail him out, Kit.â€?

“His parents?â€?

“Don’t know and never will. Do you have money?â€?

“No, but I know someone who probably will.â€? I shuddered.

“I’ll go with you.â€? Jack offered kindly. Whoa, ‘Jack’ and ‘kind’ in the same sentence.

“No. You being nice to me is all I handle today. Bye, Jack.â€? That translates to: get out, Jack.

After Jack left, I headed to the alley, where I knew James would be. He smirked when he saw me. Same old James. No, it didn’t matter if your friend and pot-stealer is in jail. Not a problem at all.

Well, not yet it isn’t.

James murmured quietly, “And so, today is the day you come here because your life depends on it. Oh, how I’m gonna enjoy this moment.â€?

This is going to be more difficult than I thought.
