Why Bother Running from the Shooter?

by Saint Chuck

The feeling cannot be described. The sound, flowing through you as if it blood, the bass rocking you, and the lights illuminating everything; as if nothing in the world were wrong. And feeling as if you were part of something. Everyone is here for the same reason. The crowd moves together, as if it were one huge being. There is nothing to describe it. It seems as if time stands still and somehow, nothing can ever go wrong.

I always thought this to be true, until last weekend, at the concert. I took Mandy to a concert of herc hoice, to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. I saved my money for weeks from working extra hours. At the concert, everything I naively thought before was true. When that one shot rang out the crowd became no longer one being, but rather seperate people all trying to save themselves.

As I grabbed Mandy’s hand to start running, she pulled back and said, “Why bother? The shooter’s long gone by now, and the band’s still playing.”

Great. It gives Mandy an air of indifference.

There is something very honest and daring about your writing, Saint Chuck. Another great opener… Fun, entertaining, and above all – very interesting.

It’s pretty good. I do like Mandy’s seeming indifference.

Very good actually. Mandy’s reasoning is unconventional, and unexpected, but shows how everyone does not work as one huge body at times.
