Chloe stood clinging to the side of the bridge, fighting vertigo, and looking into the glaring lights of the nearby city, bouncing off of the darkened waves below.
Her breath formed a warm mist in the evening chill.
She tensed as she heard the hollow sound of footsteps echo on the sidewalk mere inches away from where she stood shivering.
Slowly, quietly she reached into her pocket and pullled out a small tape recorder. The hair stood on the back of her neck as she listened to a familar voice.
” ...and than he said to her, ” the gruff voice guffawed, “It was nothing but a ketamine dream.”
“Unbeliveable” another voice replied. A car drove by the voices masked by it’s reverberations.
”..lucid, but pleasently confused..”
Chloe strained to hear, but the voices had moved on.
They never explicity mentioned her friend’s name, yet she knew, they had something to do with her disappearance.
Quickly she jumped over the rail, onto the solid side of the bridge.
As she planted her feet…
