Talking to HIM

He took me around the gymnasium to the little garden the botany class cares for. It was away from the parking lot, the TREE , and most importantly, nosy people. There was a bench and we both sat down.

The plants gave me something to look at besides him. I was afraid if I looked at him, I’d just blush and get all tongue-tied or make a fool of myself. Then he cleared his throat, breaking the silence, and causing me to look into his soft green eyes.

“So um, you wanna go to the Harvest Moon dance?” He held my gaze.

“Wow, I mean, sure!” I was so surprised he asked ME! I’ve never been asked to a ball game, let alone a dance!

“Good.” He let out a long breath, then stood. “I’ll walk you… where do you go after school?”

“Home,” I giggled. “It’s only a few blocks.” I pointed in the direction of my two story house.

“I’ll walk you home, then.” He volunteered. I couldn’t believe it! He walked beside me down the sidewalk and we talked about our families.
“Nice house!” he exclaimed.

“Thanks for walking me home.”
