Residing Dreams (Chapter 29)

Whenever my father traveled or went on business trips, which he did now increasingly often,I would often stay with the Jenkins family. They lived right up the road from us, and they were all wonderful people. There was January, her mother and father, along with her two brothers and one sister.
Whenever I stayed with them,I couldn’t help but notice how perfectly, immaculately normal they were but at the same time, totally original. Modern, yet traditional, I thought. The Jenkins household was large and homey and filled with origami projects and sweet violin music.January’s whole family played the violin. There were times when I thought she had it so easy, what with having a family that people didn’t gossip about. It was just so hard because the person who I loved more than anyone else was an object of ridicule among others. I wished for something better. I wanted something different. Well, I guess that’s just life—sometimes what you wish for you don’t even want, and sometimes what you want you don’t even wish for.
