SPRING FEVER

She was staring at a blank screen, trying to get the invisible editor off her right shoulder long enough to say what had to be said.

It didn’t help that two carpenters were out on the back porch, pounding away to restore the broken railing to some semblance of plumb and square. The landlord had been furious when he had seen the damage.

Leanna promised him she’d pay for the repairs, but he’d walked away, muttering to himself.

The simple truth was that she hadn’t known her own strength. Jason had surprised her when he tried to kiss her. Before she knew what had happened, he’d crashed through the railing and landed on the lawn, the garbage can tipped over and dumping its contents on him, the lawn and the petunias.

Jason, I’m sorry I sneezed.
