Ashes to Ashes

by Laine P. Grey

Dearly beloved, we gather to say our goodbyes.

What do you mean you don’t know what I’m talking about? Have you heard nothing about the death of society?

You couldn’t have expected it to last long without a cornerstone.

It died years ago, but we finally got around to burying it.

I guess you could say it died the moment we started fighting mindless wars, or ignoring hungry children, or allowing genocide, just so long as it’s convienent.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Amen – and the “WE” you speak of refers to not just America, but the World. War, genocide, and hunger are issues the world deals with daily. Should be embarassing, but it’s ignored and truly marks the “dead society” within which we all live.
