The Zoo

“Which critter told you I was hiding today?” I asked Dan as he approached the back of the coffee shop holding a blueberry muffin and two chai teas.
“Today it was the penguins,” he replied cynically.
“Really? I thought yesterday was the penguins.”
“No, yesterday the monkeys told me I’d find you here. Penguins took over today.” I just smiled in reply. “So, why are we hiding today, Andi? Is today a shitty job day?” he inquired. I shook my head.
“No, I am just in this blah state. I have been for a while, I’ve just been blaming everything else except the real reason,” I began, “I’m so bored with everything, Dan. I’m bored with my job, family, boyfriend, and most of my friends. I just need a way out,” I took a sip of the chai he brought me. This boy was brilliant. New which drink I needed each day.
“Then fix it.”
“How? How do I fix what isn’t broken but just is boring. I need variety, spice.”
“Can’t tell you sweetie, but you better fix it soon. I’m running out of animals to tell me where you’re hiding.”
