Double-Cross

Once Red was safely in the next room, Richard started to speak in a low voice.
“I think this might actually work. She trusts me completely.”
“Are you certain she doesn’t know?” The man asked suspiciously.
“Jonathan, have you ever known me to be wrong? I played the pity game. She actually believes I’m trying to help her!” He whispered rather loudly. “Kate,” Richard said in a normal tone of voice. “You may come back in.” Red entered; it was obvious she hadn’t heard the previous conversation.

“He actually thinks I’m gonna give this a go!” She laughed wildly to the crew that night. “A friend of his is having a gala three days from now. That is the time at which we strike.” Greedy eyes filled the room. Abruptly, she resumed her captain-like manner. “Now, back to your posts, the lot of you!” Red yelled.
