Before Dawn

It was before dawn that I stared at the ceiling and sighed. The night before was turbulent at best. The tears were anything by dry as the sun started to creep up past the low rooftops.

Beside me, she lay there, sleeping soundly. Her small heartbeat ticking wildly, a result of a dream that was just reaching its climax. Her face was streaked, trails of her emotions like small rivers on her face.

I do not know where I was before I finally turned my back and sighed for the last time before sleep came. But I felt her roll over, pressing herself against my back. Kisses trailed on my bare shoulders before I felt her drift back into her dream.
